Winter tracks

Fresh snowfall gives a great opportunity for tracking birds and animals.
I reckon this is a squirrel.

Cold then Hot

Walking on water

The Grey Heron in Bushy Park finds fishing a challenge with all the snow and ice.

Cold snap visitors

It's a shame that most of the food I put out gets devoured by fat squirrels and pigeons.

I got this Nyger seed feeder for Christmas. The Goldfinches queue up to get on to it.
I like things that are fit for purpose.

Very occasionally I'm in the right place at the right time and holding a camera.
This is the first Redwing I've seen in the garden.

Hedgehog remains

In the winter bracken dies back to ground level. It's a good place to hunt for remains which
have been hidden all year. I just found what's left of a hedgehog.
I'm amazed at how small his bones are.

It's not rocket science

Do not wear pink if you want to attract birds. Hideously amateur is the best way to describe my attire on a trip to the Dungeness RSPB nature reserve recently. My business partner's careful selection of blend-in-with-everything black was wise. I am learning from my mistakes. We did, despite everything, see a snipe (highlight of the day for me), pochards, marsh harrier (possibly), great white egret, lapwings (lots), grebes, cormorants, tufted ducks and greylag geese.
